These 12 characters illustrate how we each handle information – in our own way. Look for the in each drawing, while the 12 mental ‘styles’ tell you
about themselves
Flash, The Pioneer
I like to EXPAND! INCREASE! INFLATE! I like movement, speed, adventure! I spring forward. I explore new territory. If one is good, 50 is better – why not 500? Well, why not? TRUTH is a big word in my vocabulary. I don’t creep around an issue; I tell it like it is. Some call me blunt. Just as fast as I breathe it in, I get it and then I tell it – straight out.
Scout, The Trailblazer
Hey, coming through – get out of my way! I am original and creative, quick on the uptake and to put my foot in my mouth. And as far as brainstorming, I invented the word and the experience. I like to be first with new words, ideas, concepts, conversations, anything. I go where angels fear to tread, but I do it first. I use the word ‘I’ a lot. I like it.
Steady, The Vault
Please don’t push me. I will think things through in my own time. I chew on information and when I finish deliberating and decide to accept a new idea, and take it in, well, it’s in there. I will not be changing my opinion soon. So that’s it and don’t call me stubborn. I am a practical thinker and a hands-on learner, with long-term commitment to my thoughts.
Buzz, The Curious
Forever curious, I thrive on passing information around, sharing ideas, talking, writing, playing word games, crosswords, Scrabble, what have you. Sticking with just one idea at a time is totally boring. I hover in the vicinity of information, to insure an easy get away.
Sponge, The Sensitive
Do you know that some minds separate thinking and feeling? How very odd. I totally rely on the blend. I am impressionable and tender. A single picture conveys thousands of ideas to me. And, for me a good idea is one that feels right – it’s as easy, as final and as reliable as that.
Sherlock, The Detective
Self-disclosure does not come naturally to me, but I will make an effort. I take in information instinctually, from all around me and generally know more than you ever intended to share. I see into the core of a person or a situation, as if with X-ray vision. Don’t bother to even try to deceive me.
Rex, The Dignified
I might consider learning and I might even try out new ideas, but I absolutely will not invite them into the kingdom of my mind unless I know they will be worthy and loyal subjects.
Sonar, The Intuitive
I absorb information from all around me, that’s how I learn. I am deeply intuitive, but softly, softly. Some minds separate things as they learn, but I include them. It is all a big picture – everything fits together and makes a whole. The poetry, the music, the photographs, the dance, the flowers, the clouds – these things symbolise other things and they all speak to me.
Procon, The Diplomat
I like to look through a variety of lenses, while moving toward making a decision, but even then it’s not easy. I don’t want to judge against something which the other half of me considers to be right. Always ready for a chat, a conversation, a debate or a dialogue, I enjoy batting concepts and ideas around. It’s how I learn.
Exec, The Achiever
Well, firstly, I take initiative – along practical lines. Secondly, I am well organised, knowing where to put new information for safe keeping and for ease of access. Repetition is my ally; I like to go over things a few times.
Details, The Analyst
As I tell you about myself, my interests, my methods of dealing with information, my way of communicating etc., I intend to be thorough, complete and provide you with all the, err, ah, details – as nobody else can do, or even wants to.
Boffin, The Innovator
They tell me I am nothing if not an original and unconventional thinker. But honestly, my views and ideas are dead normal. I am just like every other mind. (Oh, sure! And wait till you see how Boffin goes about changing its views and opinions).
